Cash for Kids & Active Humber launch children’s sports club match-funding competition

18-09-2019

After its 2018 success, Cash for Kids are excited to launch the Charity Sports Challenge 2019 in partnership with Active Humber.

Cash for Kids are looking for local grassroots junior sports clubs to sign up and take part in a competition giving them the chance to win a cash grant of up to £5,000.

Each participating group will be encouraged to raise as much money as possible to fund new equipment, new kit, facilities, updating facilities and recruiting new members. With the backing of Active Humber, Cash for Kids will then match fund the club which raises the most by up to £5,000. Each club will keep every penny that they raise, plus there are four special awards where another £250 can be won for each category.

To qualify for the Sports Challenge, sports groups must demonstrate their aim to help children up to and including the age of 18 years who are ill, disabled or disadvantaged. Favourable consideration will be given to those projects which directly benefit a large number of children and/or positively increase the quality of their lives.

Cash for Kids Charity Manager Kathryn Biggin explains:

"After last year's success, we are so excited to be bringing the Sports Challenge back this year, in partnership with Active Humber, to local teams in East Yorkshire and Northern Lincolnshire. Last year the sports challenge granted back £21,787 in to the local community which is an amazing testament to the clubs that participated. Not only will the campaign inject thousands of pounds into the local sports community to improve sporting opportunities for children, but it aims to combat an increasing culture of grant dependency. The teams will not only learn new skills but they will ensure sustainability for these groups going forward."

Cirian Mills from Hull Stingers Basketball says:

"Taking part in the Cash for Kids Viking FM Sports Challenge (in 2018) was a hugely beneficial process for our club. During the month of fundraising, our club had a sense of unity that was heart-warming to see, and all of our players, coaches and supporters came together for a common goal. Due to our participation in the challenge we have been able to take children to Yorkshire trials and six of our players are currently representing their county at national tournaments."

Nicola Massingham from Active Humber says:

"Active Humber are excited to be involved with the Charity Sports Challenge 2019. The sport challenge is a brilliant opportunity for local clubs and sport organisations to raise funds to support local children to become more physically active, providing them with the benefits of regular physical activity, as well as providing the clubs with the ability to be more financially sustainable long term."

The application window is now open for four weeks and local groups are encouraged to apply for this exciting opportunity, which commences its four week fundraising challenge from October.
