Our work with School settings

In September 2023, Sport England launched the new Physical Literacy Consensus Statement which Active Humber attended and are part of the working group. Active Humber are now working with partners locally on how we embed this within our work.

Active Humber have been awarded £976,045 to fund schools to develop opportunities outside of the normal school day. The Opening Schools Facilities Funding is investment from the DfE to support schools to open up their existing facilities to a broader range of young people and the local communities after school, evenings weekends and holiday times, to provide them with access to more opportunities to be physically active. The initiative also supports school swimming pools with a focus on swimming and water safety lessons for young people.

The funding runs from January 2023 – 31st March 2025. As of January 2024 over £574,900 of funding has been awarded to 26 different schools from across the Humber; supporting those communities that need the greatest support to be more physically active. A diverse range of initiatives are being supported including the development and accessibility of fitness suites within schools, increasing access to school swimming opportunities for young people, purchasing of equipment to run new clubs, training for school staff to attain qualifications to deliver new/additional clubs, to support external activity providers to deliver clubs on the school site, provide additional holiday activity provision etc
