East Riding Leisure Withernsea Centre Celebrates Service Awards for Most Improved Leisure Centre
East Riding Leisure Withernsea has achieved a significant milestone by being named the winners of the prestigious APSE Service Awards in the category of Most Improved Leisure Centre. This recognition is a testament to the centre’s commitment to continuous improvement and dedication to providing an outstanding experience for Withernsea and the surrounding area.
Active Withernsea takes great pride in its partnership with East Riding Leisure Withernsea, working collaboratively to support the local community to take part in and lead various activities for residents across the area. Working together is showing the positive impact that effective partnerships can have on community well-being.
One notable outcome of the collaboration between Active Withernsea and East Riding Leisure Withernsea is the support provided by Active Withernsea funding and the partnership with East Riding Leisure (ERL) for the local SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) Community group, 'The Lookout.' This support has enabled the launch of fully inclusive SEND sessions, including monthly SEND Family Swimming Sessions and SEND Physical Activity Soft Play Sessions at the leisure centre. ERL Withernsea, in collaboration with Active Withernsea, Further opportunities are being explored, such as specialised SEND swimming lessons to further enhance the offerings for the community. In keeping with their commitment to community engagement, ERL has been working closely with Active Withernsea to gather feedback and insights, ensuring that the development of the leisure centre is guided by the needs and preferences of the Withernsea community. As a result of this collaborative effort, an underutilised squash court has been transformed into an MX4 studio, offering full-body High-Intensity Interval Training (HiiT) sessions led by instructors. Additionally, new Yoga sessions and the recently launched belly dancing sessions have been added to the centre’s diverse range of offerings.
The partnership extends beyond the leisure centre into the local High School, where collaborative projects, including the Girls Carousel, demonstrate a shared commitment to enabling more people to be active. We look forward to continuing to work in partnership with ERL Withernsea and other local community groups in 2024.
