OSF Hull Club of the Year Winner
Hull
As part of the opening school facility project Active Humber and StreetGames have supported Kelvin Hall School in Hull to enhance their after-school provision and develop their relationship with three locally trusted organisations; Hull Futsal Club, Wicketz and Hull Stingers Basketball. The aim of the project was to engage young people who didn’t normally take part in extra curriculum activities.
An uplift in young peoples confidence and of "joining in" sessions, increasing the activity levels, lots of new friendships made, young people have joined local teams and now attend holiday HAF sessions. Three participants have become young leaders within the sessions and are currently completing their L2 Community Sports Leaders qualification.
"Well organised, lots of fun, enjoyable for everyone, a great opportunity for me to try new sports, I now play cricket for a local club."
The project has raised the school’s profile and presence in the local community. The OSF funded Futsal, Cricket & basketball sessions have had the highest attendances of all extra-curricular clubs at the school, with lots of "Non-Sporty Kids" attending. The school have really seen the value of partnering up with community organisations and having a more varied extracurricular offer.
"The OSF sessions were very well attended by a wide & diverse range of young people many of whom don't normally get the opportunity to take part in extracurricular activities."
Connections have been developed and strengthened with local and national organisations that are looking for safe spaces for young people to be active. Quite a few participants have joined local teams and clubs as a result of attending the OSF clubs, this wouldn’t have happened without this programme.
"Brilliant project to work on, particularly with the young people who don't normally take part in activities, old school youth club vibe worked well."
Award Winning OSF Hull Club of the Year The school have teamed up with StreetGames to identify funding opportunities to enable the sessions to continue.
