Hull
The Goodwin Development Trust delivered a once a week multi-sport project funded by the Tackling Inequalities Fund. The sessions were delivered on the Great Thornton Estate in the St Andrews and Docklands ward, the most deprived ward in Hull.
The sessions were well attended and were delivered by a qualified coach and supported by a youth outreach worker. The sessions helped re-engage with the young people and bring them back to other youth provision such as the holiday hunger programme, which enabled the young people to benefit from a healthy and free meal. The multi-sports proved popular and word of mouth attracted more young people to the sessions.
Post funding, a once a week activity session has been included in the new timetable. This time delivered by the youth outreach worker who had benefited from on the job training by working alongside the qualified coach. Another added bonus of the sessions, it provided the new early help lead with the opportunity to engage with young people and subsequently their families.
Additional sessions would be beneficial after subsequent lock downs to re-engage with young people.
