Today is International Men's Day. This year the theme is Helping Men and Boys and aims to promote positive male role models.
Earlier in the week one of our staff members asked the the team what masculinity means to them and we wanted to share some of the answers:
"Overall I believe that masculinity is an all encompassing desire to support, protect and to positively impact the world around us."
"Being a man to me means being unapologetically me. It means not being afraid to show the world who exactly I am. Being a bloke is not being afraid to show my emotions, and to ask for help when I need it. It is those difficult moments to stand against toxic masculinity because you must for yourself and others, embracing and enjoying the differences of others and realising I have a role to play in uplifting those around me. I have an equal and valued place in my community. "
"Boys being accepted for showing their emotions. Don’t allow others influence to determine own behaviours."
"Resilience, Fatherhood, Strength"
"To me masculinity is being sure of yourself but being able to recognise where self-improvement is needed. It is having plenty of useless knowledge and occasionally useful skills."
