Adam Loubani achieves special recognition at Disability Sport Yorkshire Awards

13-03-2024

Active Humber Community Ambassador, Adam Loubani, received a special award recognising his considerable achievements in swimming at the recent Disability Sport Yorkshire Awards dinner.

Adam is 23 years old and has been swimming since the age of 3. Adam has Autism and learning disabilities and has tried a number of different sports in order to keep active but it is in the swimming pool where Adam really excels.

Adam swims for two clubs in Hull; Special Olympics City of Hull and Kingston upon Hull Masters swimming club.

In 2023 Adam was one of 82 Special Olympics athletes selected to represent Great Britain at the World Games in Berlin, the largest inclusive sport event to take place in 2023. This was a great honour and a wonderful experience for Adam, not only representing his country in the sport he loves but also experiencing the city of Berlin, meeting new people and really embracing the opportunity.

In the pool Adam also achieved great things and won two gold medals in each of his individual events, the 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle.

When Adam returned from Berlin he was asked if he would consider becoming a Community Ambassador for Active Humber and share his physical activity journey to inspire other people in the region to get active or take up something new. Adam was only too happy to take on this role and has done so with enthusiasm and passion.

At Active Humber we feel that Adam is an inspiration to other young people in the region and a brilliant example of what can be achieved with hard work, dedication and enthusiasm and how sport and physical activity can have such a positive impact. Congratulations Adam, from everyone at Active Humber.
