Chris Boardman Completes Pedal for Paris Challenge: Active Humber’s Green Initiatives Recap

24-07-2024

Congratulations to Chris Boardman for successfully completing the 'Pedal for Paris' challenge!

To celebrate, Active Humber is showcasing our key sustainability initiatives, aligning with Sport England’s new Sustainability Strategy. Here’s a recap of our efforts:

 1: Sustainable Operations

We’re leading the way in green business operations by:

Banking with ethical institutions like Unity Trust Bank and Royal London Pension Fund.

Relocating to the carbon-neutral Aura Innovation Centre.

Implementing agile working, reducing costs and emissions.

Eliminating in-house printing and sourcing sustainable clothing and catering.

2: Support

Active Humber supports local green initiatives, such as:

Launching a sports kit recycling scheme in Hull to reduce textile waste and provide free kits to those in need.

3: Investment

We invest in local projects that promote environmental benefits:

Funding Chiltern Primary School’s after-school scooter club to encourage active travel and reduce carbon emissions.

Supporting R-evolution, a charity dedicated to promoting active travel and environmental sustainability in the Humber region.

4: Influencing the Environment

Working with local organisations, we influence the natural and built environment:

Supporting Humber Eco Fest to engage the community in environmental action and climate change awareness.

Day 5: Advocacy

We advocate for sustainability at all levels, influencing partners to embrace eco-friendly practices and work towards carbon neutrality.
