BBC Launches ‘Let’s Move It’ Campaign to Get the Nation Moving This Summer

With an exciting summer of sport and the Paris Olympics and Paralympics, BBC Radio 2 is launching the "Let’s Move It" campaign to inspire people to get active. The six-week initiative is aimed at motivating listeners to engage in various physical activities such as walking, running, dancing, and swimming.

Listeners are encouraged to set personal activity goals alongside Radio 2 presenters, who will also share their fitness challenges. Detailed information and resources can be found at www.bbc.co.uk/letsmoveit.

Vernon Kay, who previously raised over £6 million for BBC Children in Need during his Ultra Ultramarathon, will be a key motivator for the campaign. Jo Whiley, known for her involvement with the Couch to 5K programme, will also be actively encouraging participation.

Throughout the campaign, BBC Radio 2 shows will feature unique segments to inspire activity. Scott Mills will host “Spinterviews” with guests on spin bikes, while Jeremy Vine will highlight local heroes who promote sports and physical activity in their communities. Additionally, Radio 2 presenters will participate in parkrun events across the country, reporting live from these community gatherings.

Helen Thomas, Head of Radio 2, emphasized the campaign’s goal: “Let’s Move It is about bringing people together to be a bit more active and get fitter this summer.”

Russ Jefferys, parkrun Global CEO, highlighted the accessibility of parkrun events: “Simply come along and walk, jog, run, volunteer, or just watch and soak up the feel-good atmosphere in your local community.”

Listeners can also enjoy motivating playlists on BBC Sounds, curated by Radio 2 presenters, to accompany their workouts. The campaign will culminate with a live outside broadcast of Vernon Kay’s show on August 23, featuring special guests and celebrating the collective effort to get moving.

Join the movement and make this summer one of activity and health with BBC’s "Let’s Move It" campaign.
