Active Humber and Active Withernsea are collaborating with the (PACE) Network

30-09-2024

Active Humber is committed to supporting place-based working across our region through engaging with and supporting key partners to foster local change and encourage physical activity

Active Humber and Active Withernsea are collaborating with the Physical Activity Community Engagement (PACE) network in the town to highlight the importance of accessibility, inclusivity and disability (AID) and they have formed a PACE AID subcluster. This group aims to create more accessible environments and opportunities for physical activity.

One significant initiative has been partnering with Activity Alliance to go through their Leading Inclusion self-assessment training. This training has equipped the PACE AID subcluster with the knowledge and tools needed to drive cultural change in Withernsea.

Paul Downes from Activity Alliance, who co-facilitated the training, tells us a bit more about how the PACE network members engaged with Leading Inclusion:

“The PACE network in Withernsea is a very committed group that have the place-based approach at their very heart, and this was evident from the time we have spent with this group. The leading inclusion process over the two days is intensive but the group worked openly together to ensure that they reflected on their current structures and how they presently perceive and embed an inclusive approach.

On day two the group really came into their own and they found their rhythm with solution building and the enthusiasm for creating ideas to gain progression was really pleasing to see. This process will now enter its next phase, and Activity Alliance and Active Humber will provide the after care by engaging with them via check in sessions over a six to twelve months period, to ensure the network keeps it commitment to inclusion and brings these actions plans into reality. A great start to this piece of development work and it’s a real pleasure to be supporting them through it.

Active Withernsea Engagement Officer, Adam Jamieson summarised the impact the training has already had on the PACE Network, stating that:

“The leading inclusion training really helped the PACE AID subcluster to identify priorities, start planning their actions and create a more inclusive and accessible environment for the entire community”
