Keeping Children Safe in Sport Week

Keeping Children Safe in Sport Week:

As part of Keeping Children Safe in Sport Week (7th-13th October), Active Humber is sharing reminders to all about the importance of prioritising safeguarding and creating a safe environment for young people.

Clubs and community settings play a vital role in ensuring that children feel safe, supported, and protected while getting active.

Here are some key tips to help keep children safe:

  • Open Communication: Encourage children to speak up if they feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Make sure they know who they can talk to.
  • Safeguarding Policies: Ensure your setting has clear safeguarding policies in place and that all staff, coaches, and volunteers are aware of these policies and follow them.
  • Training and Awareness: Provide safeguarding training to all staff and volunteers to help them recognise and act on signs of abuse or neglect.
  • Work with Parents: Engage parents in safeguarding efforts by keeping them informed about policies and how they can support their children’s safety.

For more guidance, visit the NSPCC’s resources on Keeping Children Safe in Sport, which provides valuable advice for both parents and clubs.

Let’s work together this week and beyond to protect young people and promote a positive, inclusive sporting experience!
