The Health and Wellbeing team at the practice run regular ‘Escape Pain’ sessions for patients suffering with chronic and neurological conditions as well as issues related to weight and lifestyle.
Lucy Meffen, Health & Wellbeing coach at Freshney Green, tells us:
“It’s been fantastic to see our surgery evolve into an Active Practice. As Health and Wellbeing Coaches we’re helping patients take charge of their health, build confidence, and make small, sustainable changes that can have a big impact, whilst also supporting our in-house team to be more active and prioritise wellbeing."
An amazing example of this is local patient Sue, who has lost over six stone with the support of the Health and Wellbeing team and regular gym sessions.
When she first began her journey, Sue struggled with breathing and had limited mobility. Determined to make a change, she started with low impact seated exercises, gradually building her strength and confidence. Over time, she progressed her activity levels and began attending regular gym sessions.
She also found that coming into the practice to get weighed was really helpful, turning it into a routine that kept her motivated and helped her build lasting healthy habits.
Sue is now able to walk tall, breathe easily, and recently completed over twenty minutes on the treadmill plus twenty minutes on an exercise bike— a remarkable achievement compared to where she started.
Sue explains:
“The sessions have changed my life, I feel stronger, healthier, and more confident every day.”
The Health and Wellbeing team at Freshney Green praised her dedication, describing it as 'a fantastic example of how sustained effort, motivation, and support can lead to real life-changing results'.
Sue’s story is just one example of how Active Practices are creating a more positive workplace and a stronger, more connected community people are feeling empowered to live well, not just get well.
