School Sports Week 2024

24-06-2024

Last week was School Sports Week. For this week, we shared on our social media channels some of the work we have been doing in partnership with our School Games Organisers Humber wide with a targeted place based approach from our most recent Active Lives Children and Young People data. Get Ahead Partnership in North Lincolnshire have summarised some of their targeted work using School Games funding.

In March 2024, we invited the local secondary schools from North Lincolnshire to Bottesford Town FC for a Flag Football event. Flag football is an exciting and inclusive way to engage students in one of the fastest growing sports in the country. We asked schools to select students who had never represented the school sports teams to give those who lack confidence a chance at a new sport. It emphasises teamwork, strategy, and fun over physical dominance, making it accessible to everyone.

We also invited Cardin Smith from Scunthorpe Alpha's Flag football along with any students who were interested in taking up the sport and to make a club link. The day was a great success as many of the students had never used the facilities before at Bottesford Town and we had over 80 students ( 47 boys, 41 girls, 11 SEND 2 BAME) try the sport for the first time. At Get Ahead we are excited to do more targeted work in the future, meeting the needs of the young people that live here.
