This Earth Day let’s turn ideas into action

22-04-2026

Today is about more than awareness. It’s about action.

The environment around us shapes how we live, how we feel, and how active we can be. Clean air, green spaces, access to water, safe places to walk and cycle, these are essential to healthier lives and stronger communities.

Today, we want to highlight a real opportunity, the Sport England Movement Fund. They can grant funding of £300 up to £15,000 to support projects that improve the environment and help people be more active.

This includes:

  • Improving green spaces for walking and activity
  • Projects along rivers, waterways, and blue spaces
  • Biodiversity and nature-based activity
  • Creating cleaner, more sustainable community spaces

And this is already happening across the country with funding supporting:

  • Better use of blue-green spaces like rivers and waterways
  • Biodiversity projects linked to activity
  • Improvements that make spaces more usable despite climate impacts
  • Environmental upgrades/improvements for sports clubs

£16 million has been set aside specifically for environmental sustainability projects through the Movement Fund. This is about more than the environment, it is about our communities and the spaces where they can move, connect, and thrive.

Let’s not just talk about change. Let’s create it.
