Children and Young People (aged 5-16) should engage in moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity for an average of 60 minutes per day across the week. In the Humber, 51.9% are not active enough. You can find out more about children and young people’s activity rates on our insight pages here.
We work with partner organisations in a targeted way to reach the children and young people facing the biggest inequalities so that we can help the less active to get active and make a positive difference to their lives.
Influence
We champion the importance of physical activity and sport through representation on several networks, boards and strategic groups across the Humber region.
North Lincolnshire
Active Humber has representation on the North Lincolnshire Youth Activity Partnership, a multi-agency meeting with representatives from across the youth sector. This meeting looks at a coordinated approach to youth provision by setting out a clear purpose for youth activity in North Lincolnshire. Active Humber are currently working in partnership to develop the key priority themes further ensuring specific links to physical activity and young people’s attitudes and behaviours towards this
North East Lincolnshire
Active Humber has representation on the North-East Lincolnshire Youth Alliance. Active Humber is part of the North-East Lincolnshire Youth Alliance. This alliance brings together local community organisations to promote and support positive outcomes for young people.
Support
We support the deliverers of sport and physical activity in a number of ways;
- Through the promotion of funding streams to help clubs bring funding into the Humber.
- We work in partnership with organisations like Street Games sharing insight and delivering projects to help young people get and stay active such as Kit Out Hull.
- We work with partners to bring resources into the Humber such as CPD opportunities like, Street Games, Race for Investment a series of workshop designed to support community organisations to develop the skills needed for successful bid writing. Or YGAMs gambling awareness workshop, which will help organisations to safeguarded children and young people against, gaming and gambling harm
- Through the promotion of partner resources and further CPD opportunities we help support clubs to be strong and sustainable.
- We offer advice and guidance to clubs and organisations delivering sport and physical activity.
The Peel Project
Active Humber has worked closely with the Peel Project since its inception to support the development of sport and physical activity across their offer. Whilst this support has linked to the broad spectrum of groups they work with we have specifically supported the development of opportunities for the children and young people they work with to access a range of sport and physical activity opportunities. This includes supporting them to access funding to develop different programmes of activity, supporting the development of their sport and physical activity workforce, linking them to other funded programmes in Hull, providing advice and guidance and developing their knowledge and understanding of the wider sector to support them to access bigger funding pots / linking them to bigger pieces of work which will benefit the communities they work with to lead healthier lifestyles.
