We are working with schools across the Humber to help children who are least active, especially those in priority areas, to get involved in physical activity through a place-based approach.
Girls Carousel
The Girls Carousel is a special programme for Year 9 and 10 girls who may not enjoy PE or need more confidence to try new activities. We’ve partnered with local leisure providers to offer fun and unique experiences for these girls.
We are also involving students in designing the programme through workshops, ensuring that their voices shape the activities they take part in.
This year, we are working with eight schools and strengthening our links with local community facilities so young people can enjoy a variety of physical activity opportunities.
Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP)
In partnership with Sportsability, we are bringing the Special Olympics Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP) to special schools across the Humber. Our staff and Sportsability team have received special MATP training to help schools implement this programme.
If your school would like to take part, please get in touch!
SGO place based work
This year, School Games Organisers (SGOs) across the Humber can apply for small grants to support projects that tackle local challenges. These projects focus on:
- Reducing inequalities
- Encouraging youth participation
- Improving physical literacy
- Achieving School Games goals
Creating Active Schools (CAS)
Active Humber are piloting CAS in the academic year of 23/24, working with 3 SGO’s in the Humber in 3 primary schools, one in East Riding, one in Hull and one in North Lincolnshire. Follow our CAS journey on social media, we want to share the learning with you.
