Building a Sustainable Sport and Physical Activity Sector in Yorkshire and the Humber

Active Humber is spearheading efforts to foster sustainability in the sport and physical activity sector across Yorkshire and the Humber.

The initiative was highlighted during the Yorkshire Sustainability Festival, in June 2024.

This event served as a platform to discuss the intersection of sport, physical activity, and environmental sustainability, aiming to coordinate a regional response to environmental challenges.

Key highlights from the webinar included:

  • Exploring the Relationship: The discussions delved into how sport and physical activity can contribute to environmental sustainability.
  • Sector Updates: Providing updates on both regional and national responses to environmental challenges.
  • Showcasing Best Practices: Sharing examples of successful sustainable practices within the sector.
  • Engaging Stakeholders: Encouraging input from various stakeholders including local authorities, sports clubs, universities, and environmental charities.

Speakers at the event, such as David Gent from Active Humber and Chris Cutforth, a sports industry professional and environmental advocate, emphasised the importance of integrating sustainable practices into sports and physical activities to reduce carbon footprints and promote environmental awareness.

Active Humber’s commitment aligns with broader goals to protect the environment and ensure the sustainability of sports for future generations.
