The ongoing cost-of-living crisis and the recovery from the pandemic has seen us focus our efforts in places supporting the communities facing the greatest inequalities as well as tackling the complex relationships and issues that often stop people being active. Our programmes have gone some way to making lives better at a local level.
We have also supported local authority partners in a variety of ways based on their needs to deliver to local communities.
Active Withernsea
A highlight this year has been strengthening the partnership with Active Withernsea as they develop a better understanding of communities on the coast and share that learning with others across England. The joint working especially around marketing has helped both organisations better deliver in local communities.
In October Sport England visited Active Withernsea to meet with the team and representatives from East Riding of Yorkshire Council and alongside our CEO, David Gent had a valuable, insightful and productive day.
Place Based Working Across the Humber into 2024
Much of the year has been explaining to Sport England and other partners at a national level of the issues of the Humber around inequalities.
We do feel that we have played a positive part in the announcement by Sport England of their new place-based expansion approach and the recognition in that about the poorest coastal communities. We look forward in 2024 to developing this approach and it will be core to all we do.
