The Active Partnerships network, which includes 43 partnerships across England, has made an Environmental Sustainability Commitment. This commitment is about making environmental sustainability a core part of everything they do to encourage active living and the benefits of sports, physical activity, and movement.
The network recognises that the people facing the greatest inequality are the most affected by climate change and the loss of biodiversity, and addressing these inequalities is a priority.
The network’s commitment focuses on five main areas:
- Making environmental sustainability a part of their work
- Joining the fight against climate change
- Creating and promoting environments that encourage physical activity
- Advocating for better access to nature and outdoor spaces (like parks and rivers)
- Addressing inequality
David Gent, CEO of Active Humber, highlighted the importance of this commitment, stating that, even though there is a lot of information on climate change, many people still ignore it. He stressed that this commitment shows the network is ready to take action and work on solutions. While the Active Partnerships network is already guided by Sport England's "Every Move" strategy, this commitment pushes them to act now and focus on where they can make the most impact.
Active Humber is also fully committed to following these principles in all of its work.
