Active Design
Modern life makes it easy to be inactive—1 in 3 adults in England don’t get enough exercise. But the way we design our cities, streets, and workplaces can encourage people to be more active while also helping the environment.
Active Design: Building for Movement
At Active Humber, we support Sport England’s 10 Active Design Principles, which promote planning and design choices that:
- Make everyday movement easy and natural.
- Create spaces that encourage people to walk, cycle, and stay active.
- Help build a more sustainable and carbon-neutral environment.
Active travel, walking and cycling
Active travel includes walking, cycling, and using public transport, all of which help:
- Reduce carbon emissions.
- Improve health and fitness.
- Make daily travel cheaper and more enjoyable.
Did you know?
- Adults (16+) need 150 minutes of exercise per week.
- Children (5-15) need 60 minutes of activity per day.
Small changes—like walking to the shop, cycling to work, or taking public transport—can add up to a big difference!
