Active Practice Accreditation
Active Humber has recently helped Freshney Green Primary Care Centre become an Active Practice. It is currently the only GP practice in North East Lincolnshire with this award. This recognises their strong commitment to physical activity, health, and wellbeing for both patients and staff.
The Health and Wellbeing team at the practice runs regular “Escape Pain” sessions. These sessions support patients living with long-term health conditions, neurological conditions, and challenges related to weight and lifestyle. The aim is to help people manage their pain and improve their overall health through movement and healthy habits.
Lucy Meffen, a Health and Wellbeing Coach at the practice, said:
“It’s been fantastic to see our surgery evolve into an Active Practice. As Health and Wellbeing Coaches we’re helping patients take charge of their health, build confidence, and make small, sustainable changes that can have a big impact, whilst also supporting our in-house team to be more active and prioritise wellbeing. These changes are creating a more positive workplace and a stronger, more connected community — people are feeling empowered to live well, not just get well.”
Active Humber has also delivered physical literacy sessions with the Escape Pain groups. These sessions help people think about how they feel about movement and how being active supports their health and wellbeing journey.
Active Menopause COP
Active Humber is one of five Active Partnerships leading a national Active Menopause Community of Practice. This group works across the Active Partnerships network to support women to stay active during perimenopause and menopause.
Active Humber’s Development Manager for Disability and Long Term Health Conditions leads a male allies group. This group encourages men to get involved, raise awareness, and support conversations about the benefits of physical activity during menopause.
The group’s main goals are to:
- Raise awareness of the benefits of staying active during perimenopause and menopause.
- Encourage open and normal conversations about menopause with partners and organisations.
- Change attitudes so women are better supported to stay active during important life stages.
- Work together to remove barriers that stop women from being as active as they would like.
- Create menopause-friendly workplaces.
All male staff at Active Humber have signed up to be male menopause allies. The whole team will complete menopause awareness training in 2026 to ensure the organisation is menopause friendly.
Active Humber is also supporting community ambassador Jaime Greaves from Get Active Stay Active, who is planning to start a menopause-focused physical activity session in North Lincolnshire.
