Creating Active Schools
Creating Active Schools (CAS) is a whole-school plan to help children be more physically active during the school day. It looks at school policies and the overall environment to make sure activity is part of everyday life at school.
Active Humber and Hull Active Schools have worked with several schools to put this plan into action.
We visited Chiltern Primary School in Hull to see how this approach has helped the children and what difference it has made.
Get, Set, Grow
Moving from Year 6 to secondary school can feel difficult and worrying for many children. We worked with the Get Ahead Partnership and With Me In Mind (the school mental health service for North Lincolnshire) to test a new event designed to help Year 6 pupils build confidence, resilience, and social skills before starting secondary school.
Our first event took place in October 2025 with Belton All Saints Church of England Primary School and St Bernadette's Primary Voluntary Academy. The children took part in team-building physical activities and wellbeing workshops. These sessions helped them talk about their feelings and prepare for the move to secondary school. The event showed how positive experiences through physical activity can help children understand their thoughts and feelings, and connect better with others.
With Me In Mind are continuing to support the schools, and the next event is planned for April 2026.
Opening School Facilities
The Opening School Facilities Programme helped schools open their sports and activity spaces to more young people and local community members. These facilities were made available after school, in the evenings, at weekends, and during school holidays.
Over three years, funding supported 31 schools and provided more than £840,000 to create new opportunities for children and young people — especially those who needed extra support — to be physically active.
We visited Havelock Academy to hear about the positive impact of their improved facilities.
