Sport Welfare Officers Network
In January we welcomed our first ever Sport Welfare Officer to the team. Mary Smith is part of a national network of Sport Welfare Officers across England who are working to support Club Welfare Officers to create, safe, inclusive environments for children, young people, and adults. They are also working with National Governing Bodies to connect sports and promote good welfare practices locally.
- The network has a universal offer that is available to clubs across the Humber. The ways that Mary has been supporting clubs include:
- Connecting with those who work in Safeguarding at a local level.
- Signposting clubs to training and/or advice services.
- 1-2-1 support is to clubs around safeguarding.
- Quarterly Club Welfare Officer Forum online meetings for clubs across Yorkshire and the Humber.
- Monthly Club Welfare Officer online drop-ins.
- ‘Community in Motion’ Active Bystander training free of charge.
CPSU Low Level Concerns Training
The whole Active Humber team completed the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU) Low Level Concerns training in November 2025. In the session staff were given examples of safeguarding concerns and discussed how they should be responded to. The training will enable all Active Humber staff to identify a low-level concern and report and record this to the Active Humber Internal Safeguarding Team.
