Environment and Sustainability

Millington Pastures

The Humber is one of the most ‘at risk’ places in the United Kingdom to the effects of climate change. Our impact in 2024 has been to show, at a national, regional and local level, how increased levels of physical activity and sport has a vital role to tackle climate change and reduce inequalities.

Nationally

Active Humber has worked closely with Sport England and represented the Active Partnerships Network (APN) on numerous national groups making the case for physical activity’s role in tackling climate change.

Active Humber were at the centre of the production of the APN environmental sustainability commitment which will in 2025 and beyond direct the work of Active partnerships to tackle climate change.

Further details on the commitment can be found here and a video to explain the commitment can be found here.

Regionally

Active Humber has worked closely with the Yorkshire & Humber Climate Commission to embed the role and value of sport and physical activity in the Climate Action Plan for the region. The impact of this will be felt in future years as sport helps to mitigate the effects of, adapt to and help regenerate the region from the effects of climate change.

Internally

Throughout the year we have continued to implement our ‘BE ACTIVE’ climate action plan and this has helped to keep our own carbon emissions low as well as working with local clubs and organisations to reduce their emissions.
