Place Based Working

The Story So Far

As part of Sport England Place Partnership work East Riding, Hull and North East Lincolnshire were all identified in 2024 to either continue to invest in specific areas of their Local Authority or start developing investment into their place to create the conditions for change at a local level to help people to be physically active.

The investment will target the greatest resources to areas with the highest inactivity levels and other social need indicators to enable areas to overcome the specific barriers to physical activity that exist in their communities with the aim of driving systemic, long-term change to establish a more active, inclusive, and resilient place.

Our role at Active Humber in 2024 has been to help each of the four areas to prepare to be a part of this initiative and put in place the plans that will best see an increase in activity at a local level and in particular with those who are least physically active.

This initiative highlights a promising step towards addressing inequalities in physical activity and promoting healthier lifestyles in all four areas of the Humber. The development grant from Sport England’s Place Expansion work is a strategic approach to identify and address barriers to activity, fostering collaboration among local partners to create sustainable, community-driven solutions. By focusing on systemic change, this investment aims to not only increase participation in physical activities but also build long-term resilience and equity across communities.

After spending 2024 helping to develop the plans, we look forward to working with each of the four areas to implement the plans in 2025.
